OBJECTIVES:
The student will explore the skills needed to accomplish a variety of writing tasks.
The student will learn/use different types of development based on the nature of the material and the audience.
The student will create effective theses.
The student will provide adequate, effective support of the thesis.
The student will demonstrate command of the standards of written language.
Procedure:
1. Distribute "The Story of an Hour" and accompanying study questions.
2. Collect yellow rubric from each student for me to grade research papers - make sure they put their names on them & check research notes.
3. Remind students that their Research Paper Final Draft with Works Cited (together as one document) must be turned in to Schoology by midnight today.
4. Students have remainder of block to finish revising and editing paper before they turn it in. When they are finished, they should read
"The Story of an Hour" and complete the study questions.

1. Check research paper rough drafts.
2. Distribute peer review sheets. Have students exchange papers and conduct peer review.
3. Discuss additional look-fors:
~parenthetical citations - Purdue OWL parenthetical guide
- If there is an author = author's last name and page number
(if there is one)
- If there is no author = "title of article" and page number
(if there is one)
- period goes after the parentheses
~direct quotations --ONLY 2 are allowed
~Third person POV - NO "I, me, you"
~Agreement - pronoun/antecedent agreement
- If the paper says, "The person should be able to choose
their..." it is a problem. The person=singular. Their=plural
Options: "The person should be able to choose his..."
"People should be able to choose their..."
"One should be able to choose one's..."
4. Make necessary revisions to your draft while I check/grade research notes.

3. Administer Plickers quiz.
4. Continue researching topic. Show me your thesis statement if you have not already done so. Begin rough draft with parenthetical citations.
